It's a new year and time for a new you. You may have heard of people using acupuncture to help them quit. At Heilen Natural Medicine, we offer this treatment option to patients in a calm, comfortable atmosphere.
We know that quitting smoking may not be as easy as going “cold turkey”. But we also know there is incredible power that comes when your mind is in the right place. Acupuncture can be an amazing tool to help you deal with common side effects and troubles of quitting smoking. The treatment sessions provide relief and support on many different levels, including the anxiety, nervousness, and irritability that can come with quitting.
There are over 7,000 different chemicals in cigarettes. More than 70 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer. Smoking is known to cause oxidative stress in the body. All of us have seen a rusty gate or a rusty car. This is a form of oxidation. Smoking speeds along this same process inside your body. Smokers are also at significantly higher risk for other diseases, including coronary heart disease, stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Nearly half a million deaths in the United States are attributed to cigarette smoking.1
So, if you’re ready to start stopping, we are here for you. Our 4-week kickstart program can help you say goodbye to cigarettes once and for all.
What to Expect
This four-week program includes 10 acupuncture treatments. Each treatment lasts approximately 45-minutes. Acupuncture needles are inserted in various specific locations in your ears. Other points elsewhere on the body may also be used, depending on the individual patient. There is no need to undress or wear a medical gown for treatments.
- Week One: Initial consultation and three treatments
- Week Two: Three treatments
- Week Three: Two treatments
- Week Four: Two treatments
The sessions are provided in recliner chairs in a comfortable community-style room. You may be sharing the treatment space with other people. (Private treatment sessions are also available - please ask for pricing details for private sessions.)
Treat the Whole Person
The philosophy of naturopathic medicine includes treating the whole person. Because of this, we love the approach of acupuncture for helping you quit smoking. Each needle that is placed can have a different effect on the body. One point will help support the lungs, another will decrease the stress and anxiety that may come along with quitting. Additional points can help decrease irritation, balance appetite, and improve mood.
Dr. Bradford is Naturopathic Physician and a member of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA). Since 1974, NADA acupuncture protocols have been used all over the globe to help people deal with and recover from substance addiction. In addition to acupuncture, Dr. Bradford is trained in the use of diet, nutrition, and the proper use of vitamins and supplements. For people seeking a more comprehensive approach to their quitting plan, additional consultation visits may be scheduled.
